Experimental vs. Operational AI
In this presentation, Prasanna began by first touching on experimental versus operational AI. Experimental AI is when you’re still figuring out if the AI can achieve what it needs to achieve. With experimental AI you’re asking, “Can this work?” As Prasanna put it, with experimental AI you’re less concerned with what can go wrong, and, instead, are curious if it can even go right.
Then, there’s operational AI. Operational AI is when you can say, “okay this works, now let’s scale it.” But there’s more to operational AI than just pressing “go.” With operational AI you need to be sure you have the right frameworks in place to truly implement the AI. This includes frameworks for monitoring accuracy, continuous improvement, compliance, and continuous retraining. That’s where an AI operating system comes in.
